Artist Statement: I don't remember the first time I saw it, but I know I caught mid-way through on TV and just saw Doc Brown and was like, what is this? Remember, this was before internet so I just waited for a commercial break and learned it was called "Clue", to which then I realized the names from the board game. Being one of my favorite games, I watched. And fell in love, more so from the dumbs gags than the story line cuz I can promise you most of it went over my head. But this movie just holds a special place in my heart for just teleporting me back to a time when I would just lay on the floor in front of the family TV and watch new-to-me movies on TV.
The painting is from the scene where the police officer is locked in the Billiard Room and he claims he arrest them for murder. I like this composition as a way to capture the entire cast in one scene where they're all takin up somewhat even (sorry Prof) real estate in frame. As I do, I made the abstract background based off the original background of the mansion. Looking at a framed piece of art above the mantel framed by candelabras. I put rough swatches behind the bust of each character to represent their code names and bring a bit of the board game to the film's image. Personally I love this piece as it displays an array of emotions from each face and can easily give you an idea of their reaction to being accused by an officer.
